Our goal is to save every animal we can, and we work hard every day to ensure we give each dog that comes into our care the very best chance at finding happiness.

Our commitment: We do not euthanize for time or space.

Being a 100% foster-based rescue, we’re able whole-heartedly make this promise to you.

What NO-KILL means to Evergreen Pug Rescue?

Evergreen Pug Rescue is firmly rooted in our commitment to help all pugs, including the unwanted, abandoned, ill, injured, elderly, alpha, all ages, and pugs of all sizes and colors.

Evergreen Pug Rescue is proud to be a NO-KILL rescue, which means we will absolutely never euthanize a pup due to time or space. For example, if Sammy the Sweet Senior joins us and, though unlikely, we’re unable to find him the perfect forever home, he will stay with a loving foster family and enjoy his golden years in comfort and care. (In reality, we have many adoptive families who adore seniors, so this is rarely a concern!)

However, in rare and heartbreaking situations, some pugs come to us in severe pain or suffering from untreatable illnesses or injuries. In these cases, we rely on the expertise and guidance of our trusted veterinary professionals to make the best decisions for their well-being. When all other options are exhausted, the most compassionate choice may be to help a pug peacefully cross the rainbow bridge, ending their suffering with dignity and love.

Evergreen Pug Rescue feels that it is our responsibility to not place a dangerous dog within our community. As such, we have an established process and dedicated group of volunteers to evaluate pugs with a history of human-bite or severe-dog aggression before making any commitment to bring these pups into rescue. Bottom line, we have to know that our families, fosters, neighbor, friends, and veterinarians will be safe. Part of partnering with Evergreen Pug Rescue is knowing that you’re not at risk of fostering or adopting a dog with severe aggression. When we commit, we commit - and that includes medical evaluation, rehabilitation, specialized training behavior modification, and alternate living situations.

We believe strongly that spay or neutering your pet is part of being a responsible pet owner.  Our belief is that spay and neuter programs have the biggest impact on the overpopulation problem and ultimately will lower the euthanasia rate.  Educating the public on the importance of this practice is resulting in saving the lives of otherwise healthy dogs that are at high risk for euthanasia.
