Evergreen Pug Rescue is based in Washington state. Most of our foster dogs are located in the greater Seattle area, Central Washington (Yakima) and Spokane.
We do adopt to families outside Washington!
Our pugs have found wonderful homes in Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, Pennsylvania, New York and beyond. However, there are some important responsibilities and practical considerations for out-of-area adopters.
Out-of-area adopters must be willing and able to travel to Washington to pick up their new pug. Because we are 100% foster-based and do not have a physical facility, pickup will take place at the foster family’s home or another mutually agreed-upon location within Washington.
Adopters are responsible for arranging and paying for all travel-related expenses.
Applications from neighboring states—and places such as Alaska, where Washington may be one of the closest practical options—absolutely make sense and are always welcome.
If you’re willing to fly a significant distance to adopt, we encourage you to also consider rescues in high-risk, pug-overpopulated states such as California and Texas. These rescues have many wonderful pugs waiting for homes and would love to work with committed adopters.
We invest a great deal of time, money and volunteer effort bringing pugs from these areas to Washington, where we already have many wonderful families waiting to adopt. If you’re able to travel, adopting directly from a rescue in one of these high-need areas may be an even better option.
That doesn’t mean we won’t consider your application—especially if you’re looking for a dog with very specific qualities or needs. We’re here to help! We just don’t necessarily think you need to fly from somewhere like Florida to Washington when there may be a wonderful pug waiting closer to home.
If you live in a high-risk, pug-overpopulated state, we will almost always direct you to a rescue in your area.
If the adoption is not the right fit, the adopter is responsible for returning the pug directly to Evergreen Pug Rescue in Washington.
An Evergreen Pug Rescue dog may never be surrendered, transferred or rehomed through another rescue, shelter or individual. This responsibility applies regardless of where the adopter lives.
If you are unable to travel to Washington to pick up your pug, we cannot proceed with the adoption.
We understand that this may be disappointing, but as an all-volunteer organization, we must be confident that every adoption—and any potential return—can be managed safely and responsibly. In these situations, we recommend working with a rescue closer to home.
No. Evergreen Pug Rescue does not ship or transport dogs to adopters. The adopter must personally travel to Washington and complete the pickup.
Not every pug is suitable for air travel due to size, health, anxiety or other individual needs. If air travel is necessary, the adopter is responsible for confirming all airline and destination requirements.
Any required health certificate must be arranged and paid for by the adopter. Because ownership transfers at adoption, the certificate may need to be obtained after the adoption is completed.
Our goal is not to discourage out-of-area applicants. We want to be transparent about the additional responsibilities that come with adopting from a distance.
Most of our dogs receive strong local interest, and we already have many excellent Washington families waiting to adopt. When multiple applicants could provide equally wonderful homes, travel distance, transportation logistics and the ability to return the dog if necessary may all be considered.
Every decision is made with the individual dog’s safety, needs and long-term success at the center.
