Nala is currently located in one of EPR’s outreach areas and is scheduled to come to WA this summer.
Nala is currently being treated for TVT, short for a transmissible venereal tumor. TVTs are malignant (cancerous) tumors which are very different from other cancers, TVTs can spread between dogs. Nala was rescued from a breeder and all of this makes sense as it is sexually transmitted through direct skin-to-skin contact with the tumor that results in cancer cells being transplanted from dog to dog. That being said, it's extremely contagious and can be transferred in other ways too. So, she's safely tucked away quarantined from the other dogs and will be undergoing 6 weeks of chemotherapy to treat the cancer. 3 down; 3 to go!
We already spayed her and she also had to have one of her eyes removed due to a previous, untreated injury.
She's in great hands for now and we hope to see her join us in the PNW sometime in August if all goes well.
